Elmbank's laptops are wonderful tools to help students learn. Every time we use these laptops, teachers and students are working together to explore ways to improve our learning. Many students have computers, laptops or other devices at home. Outside of school, these tools can be part of our fun, our entertainment and their is a lot of free choice. In class, that free choice is gone.
Rules
Laptops will start on a student desk or teacher desk and will only move from there with the teacher's permission.
Only one student or a pair of students who have shown that they can take turns patiently, are using the laptop.
Instructions from the teacher will be followed.
Using the laptop to leave the school subject behind or using it to do anything other than the lesson of the teacher is not allowed.
Ideas and suggestions of how to use laptops will always be listened to or recorded (but they may not be acted upon, depending on time and teacher goals) A wiki page of student ideas for the laptops and school subjects will be created and introduced to everyone.
Consequences
A student who has not followed the teacher's expectation for laptop use in the classroom will lose opportunities to use the laptop in the future. Any laptop time lost will follow a progressive pattern. Warnings and short laptop suspensions may be followed by a more serious, lengthy suspension from using the laptops. This will be done in consultation with both family and administration.
